SYD FRANZ

graphic designer / dancer / drag king

Brooklyn, NY (Lenapehoking)

As a designer, I’ve worked with a variety of performers, creators, drag artists, nonprofits, and dance organizations to support their creative and business goals through event flyers, merchandise, website designs, and custom logos/brand direction.

As a dance and performing artist, my work emphasizes improvisation, creative play, collaboration, and rigorous research to continuously explore identity, community, and queer joy. I am a collaborator with Detour Dance, a devised theater company creating immersive drag/dance/theater performances in San Francisco. I teach contemporary floor work, ballet, and improv, and was on faculty for the Alonzo King LINES Ballet Training Program.

While originally from Houston, TX, I went to Loyola Marymount University and earned BA degrees in graphic design and dance in LA, and then both trained and worked at the San Francisco Conservatory of Dance before moving to Brooklyn.

Lately, I’ve been diving deeper into the worlds of illustration, lettering, devised theater, and drag. Outside of the studio, you will likely find me cooking, reading, or wandering a local junk shop. I am currently accepting new clients for poster, illustration, and lettering work.
